This remote, while not able to control very complex home theaters (not advertised as such), worked very well for my four-component/TV system in living room. For thirty bucks, I was able to put away three other remotes, and got other benefits too - strong IR emitter, great button layout, fits well in a hand, small size. If you don't need a TheaterMaster 700MX, or a marco-capable complex remote control for your system, I would recommend this remote as a "buy."
It replaced 5 other remotes.

Not all of my components are Sony. After purchasing a Sony universal remote that was supposed to be compatabible with all my components, but wasnt, I bought this one that had the learning function. It takes a while to "learn" every command, but it works great and is comfortable to hold. The only thing I am worried about is when the batteries die. The memory will only be saved for a few hours and if you dont change the batteries in time, you lose everything.

I received this as a wedding gift and I have to say Iam impressed. I was always a little worried about how effective a universal remote would be I must admit this works very well. The ability of the unit to "learn" is not a novelty but an effective way to program the remote. If you have a fairly simple home theater setup buy this remote with confidence.

As far as I'm concerned, any universal remote without learning capability is a complete waste of money. I have components from mutliple manufactures, and this remote learned all the functions flawlessly.
Not to mention the simplicity of design. Just leave it in view, and anybody could pick it up and control most of the functions of any component in my system.

This is the first learning remote I bought. At first, I did not even recgnise it was a learning remote (bought it back in 2002 when I had all Sony components). When I started changing the Sony components, I was glad I'd bought this remote, as it was easy to program all my components, owing to it's easy-to-use learning features, where, as long as you have the original remote for any brand, you can program an almost unlimited number of operations for your OEM equipment. The remote even has some cool extra features, like programming the volume button to the amplifier, irrespective of the component selected (if, e.g. you run alll your equipment through an amp and control the volume from there). You can also program the remote to autoatically turn on your equipment with the press of the component select button (if you are using Sony equipment). There are other features, as well, but the manual explains them better.
As a bonus, the remote is attractive and ergonomic. The only drawback, I'd say, is that I thought some of the component select buttons would have glowed in the dark, to make the operation easier at night, but that was not the case. In spite of this, I would definitely strongly recommend this remote.
